Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain, at a low cost, high-quality polyesters, suitable as raw materials for films, etc., which contain a slight amount of impurities due to thermal decomposition, by polycondensing bis(ω-oxyalkylene) terephthalate to a specified degree of polymerization in liquid phase, and polycondensing the resulting polymer in solid phase after granulation.
CONSTITUTION: Bis(ω-oxyalkylen) terephthalate is charged together with catalysts and stabilizers into the initial polymerizer 11, where it is polycondensed in liquid phase at about 260W275°C, and then the resulting product is charged into the intermediate polymerizer 12, where it is polycondensed in liquid phase at about 10mmHg and about 260W275°C, until the number-average polymerizaton degree reaches about 30W60. The produced polymer is cooled and granulated into a diameter of about 0.2W2mm in the pelletizer 13, and the granules are charged into the after-polymerizer 14, where they are polycondensed in solid phase at a temperature of the melting point of the polymer or lower temp. to obtain linear condensation polyesters, containing a slight amount of impurities such as free carboxyl groups.
