Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat sewage without the evolution of methane gas in a small plant scale and in a small amount of surplus sludge by adsorbing and incorporating organic suspended matter in sewage into activated sludge and subjecting the sludge to aerobic and anaerobic treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Sewage W1 containing much organic suspended matter of drainage, etc. is introduced into a contact tank 1 and is mixed and contacted with sewage S1 while aerating, whereby partial dissolved matter and suspended matter present in the sewage W1 is absorbed by the sewage S1. Then, the resulting mixture is fed to a precipitation tank 2 where the sewage S1' containing the adsorbed suspended matter is separated. In an anaerobic tank 3, the sewage S1' is subjected to an anaerobic biochemical treatment to decompose the organic suspended matter thereby forming lower molecular compounds. a sludge-liquid mixture containing the resulting lower molecular compounds, decomposition residue and the grown bacteria is subjected to an aerobic treatment, and part of the sludge-liquid mixture is recycled to the contact tank 1. Thus, sewage can be treated by a plant having a small capacity and only a small amount of surplus sludge is formed.
