Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the formation of sludge in the treatment of waste water contg. org. matter so as to make the apparatus smaller, by conveying mixed liquid of sludge formed in a precipitation tank for biocatalytic oxidation of activated sludge to a treating tank, where the mixed liquid is recycled and at the same time mixed and aerated.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water 1 contg. org. matter is sent to an aerating tank 2, where causative components of BOD are decomposed, then to a precipitation tank 3. Clarified water is discharged from the tank 3, and the activated sludge becomes precipitated sludge 4 in the tank 3. A portion of the sludge is returned through a pump 6 to the aerating tank 2, the remainder being conveyed by a pump 7 as a mixed soln. of sludge to a biocatalytic oxidation tank 8. At the tank 8, the precipitated sludge is circulated by means of a pump 11, simultaneously a portion of raw water is supplied to the sludge so as to form biomembrane on the surface of a contact material (filter medium) 9 such as plastics etc. In addition, the biomembrane of coming generation is formed on the surface of the membrane by fertilization, the inside biomembrane being converted to rotton gas thereby reducing the sludge quantity. As a result, the apparatuses such as concentration tank 12, dehydrator etc. are made smaller remarkably.
