Abstract

PURPOSE: A conjugate fiber that is made by melt spinning and conjugating a hydrophobic thermoplastic resin and a saponified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, thus acquiring improved dyeability and antistatic properties with very little reduction of the properties inhering in the hydrophobic resin.
CONSTITUTION: A saponified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer of 15W50 mole % ethylene content and over 98.5 mole % saponification degree is melt spun together with a hydrophobic thermoplastic resin to form conjugate fibers. The above copolymer has sufficient hot water resistance, adhesion, and dyeability and reduced electrifying properties. Even when the hydrophobic polymer forms the sheath, good dyeability and antistatic properties can be developed.
