Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance weld padding property and resistance to wear due to earth and sand by a method wherein contents of C and O2 is reduced from, and elements such as Cr and V are added to, high-toughness high-Mn steel.
CONSTITUTION: In high-Mn steel containing 7W40% of Mn, contents of C is reduced to 0.9% or less and O2 to 0.015% or less, and Si<3%, Cr<10%, and V<5% are added. Or further, at least one of Ni<10%, N<0.3%, Mo<4%, Cu<2%, W<2%, Co<2%, B<0.01% REM<0.5%, Ti<2%, Nb<2%, Zr<2%, Al<2% may be added. From a normal high Mn steel used for crushing rocks or parts therefor, or earth and sand excavator, C is somewhat reduced to prevent carbide from precipitating on grain boundaries. This enhances abrasion resistance to earth and sand. Addition of Cr and V reduces initial abrasion and assists in work-hardening property and thereby improves earth-sand abrasion resistance. Reduced amount of O2 improves weld padding property. This also reduces oxide impurities so that sand-earth abrasion resistance is improved.
