Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A benzoic acid derivative of formula I (R<1> is H, or one or two halogen, lower alkyl, etc. substituted at arbitrary positions,; X is CH or N; R<2> is H or lower alkyl). EXAMPLE:2-[[(o-Carboxyphenyl)imino]methyl]-4-chloro-benzoic acid. USE:Pharmaceuticals having, e.g. anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatuc, anti-allergic, and anti-homolytic activities. PROCESS:A benzoic acid derivative of formula I is obtained by the equimolar reaction of an anthranylic acid derivative of formula II with o-phthalaldehyde acid of formula III in a solvent, e.g. methanol, tetrahydrofuran, etc., at room temp. or with heating. The halogen of R<1> in formula I is, e.g. F, Cl, Br, etc.; the lower alkyl of R<1> is, e.g. methyl, ethyl, etc.; and the lower alkyl of R<2> is, e.g. methyl, n-propyl, etc.
