Abstract
PURPOSE: To steel wire for welding of improved low-temperature impact toughness obtained by containing Sol.B in the wire in particular, letting these deposit at austenite grain boundaries, thence delaying fine ferrite-pearlite transformation.
CONSTITUTION: The steel wire for welding composed of C; 0.12% or less, Si; 0.30W1.20%, Mn; 1.40W2.50%, S; 0.015% or less, O; 0.0080% or less, N; 0.010% or less, Sol.B; 0.0002W0.0020% and the rest of Fe. In this wire for welding, the S, O, N in particular are made slight in guantity and a slight amount of Sol.B is let to segregate at austenite grain boundaries, thence fine ferrite transformation is delayed, by which the low temperature impact toughness is improved. In this case, means such as copper plating and vegetable oil application on the surface of this wire are effective for stable execution of arc welding.
