Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently recover S from SO2-contg. gas by arranging a plurality of inlets for introducing the gas into a converter at the converter bottom and in the longitudinal direction of the converter to make the internal temp. of the converter uniform and induce almost uniform reaction.
CONSTITUTION: A carbonaceous adsorbent and a carbonaceous solid obtd. by dry distilling part of coal to be supplied to boiler 6 from duct 2 are activated with steam and O2-contg. gas by means of activating unit 44 and fed to adsorber 10 and converter 24, respectively. SO2-contg. exhaust gas from boiler 6 is introduced into adsorber 10 to allow the SO2 to be adsorbed on the adsorbent in the form of sulfuric acid. This adsorbent is then fed to desorber 20, where the sulfuric acid is desorbed as SO2. Part of this SO2-contg. gas is introduced into converter 24 from the bottom through duct 26, and the remainder from a plurality of supply inlets arranged in the longitudinal direction through duct 28. In converter 24 the gas is contacted to the carbonaceous solid to convert the SO2 into S, and S-contg. gas is drawn out of duct 30.
