Abstract
PURPOSE:To develop the flux of superior peeling characteristic of slag by defining the contents of fluorides and basic oxides to a correct range in the composition of the flux. CONSTITUTION:At the time of performing horizontal electroslag build-up welding of all kinds of stainless steels by the use of a strip-form electrode with large current, the flux of the following components and grain sizes are used. Namely, the composition comprises CaF2; 40-50%, SiO2; 10-20%, Al2O3; 10-30%, CaO; <30%, wherein the total content of CaF2+CaO is made 50% or more to increase the ratio of the basic components and increase the conductivity of molten slag. In addition, the grain sizes consist primarily of #32-#100 and the flux is so made as to have 5% or less of grain sizes of #32 or more and 10% or less of fine powder form of #100 or less. The slag is easy to peel and the beautiful deposited metal free from any defect such as undercuts may be obtained.
