Abstract
PURPOSE: To stabilize the lifetime characteristics of an oxygen concentration detector by forming a surface catalyst electrode of an element and roughing the surface of the electrode and by forming a protecting film of porous refractory metal oxide.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a surface catalyst electrode 3', which is formed on the surface of a tubular zirconia solid electrolyte 1 having its one end closed is roughed by the sand-blasting treatment. Then, the surface electrode 3' is protected with a protecting film 4 of porous refractory metal oxide. Thus, the porosity of the surface catalyst electrode is improved to have its electric characteristics improved, and the film of the refractory metal oxide is brought into direct contact with the solid electrolyte so that the film can be prevented from being separated.
