Abstract

PURPOSE: To greatly reduce the deterioration of connected parts of shaped polyethylene pieces, by previously appropriately impregnating the connected parts with a prescribed silane compound and a compound which produces a free radical on polyethylene at a high temperature, melting the connected parts and butt-coupling them to each other.
CONSTITUTION: The connected parts of the shaped polyethylene pieces such as pipes are previously appropriately impregnated with the silane compound such as vinyltrimethoxysilane which is represented by a general formula RR'SiY2 and with the compound such as dicumyl peroxide or BPO which produces the free radical on polyethylene at the temperature of 140°C or more. The connected parts are heated to a temperature of 160 to 250°C equal to the melting point of polyethylene and butt-coupled to each other. In said formula, R denotes a monovalent olefinic unsaturated hydrocarbon group or a hydrocarbon oxy group, Y denotes a hydrolyzable organic group and R' denotes hydrogen or a monovalent hydrocarbon group containing no fatty unsaturated part.
