Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable printing on a validation card of any size, by effecting inverted character disposition on a head when the validation card is inserted in between an ink ribbon and the head so that normal characters are printed on the card. CONSTITUTION:When there is no validation card, a ''no validation card'' signal 6 is generated by a detector 5 and applied to a printing control circuit 10 to supply a normal printing signal 8 from the circuit 10 to the head 3. At that time, normal character disposition is performed on the head 3 to print normal characters on an unwound paper roll 2 with the ink ribbon 1. When there is a validation card 4, a ''validation card present'' signal 7 is generated by the detector 5 or an input circuit and supplied to the control circuit 10 to apply an inverted printing signal 9 from the circuit to the head. At that time, inverted character disposition is performed on the head 3 and the ribbon 1 is pressed on a platen 11 through the card 4 to print normal characters on the card.
