Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture an instrument panel of high dimension accuracy through a small number of steps, by foaming a polyurethane material so that a pad material is made and the thickness of its contact part with a panel material is slightly less than a final thickness and by fixing the pad material on the panel material and foaming a liquid between them so that both the materials are integrated with each other. CONSTITUTION:A surface material 1 made of PVC is set on a lower mold 2. A liquid 3 for foamed polyurethane is poured onto the material 1. An upper mold 4 is secured on the liquid 3. The liquid is then foamed to make the pad material. After the pad material consisting of the surface material 1 and the foamed polyurethane 3 is hardened, the pad material is separated from the molds and set on another lower mold 5. Another liquid 6 for foamed polyurethane is coated on the reverse side (contact side with the panel material) of the foamed layer 3. The panel material 7 is immediately set on the coated liquid. Another upper mold 8 is secured on the panel material 7. The liquid 6 is foamed, thereby integrating the pad material with the panel one. Since no urethane is lost, a leaked urethane removing step is not needed. The instrument panel is used for an automobile or the like.
