Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the whole constitution of a reader by providing a signal magnetic field in parallel to the sheet surface of a magnetic card and by detecting the direction of the signal magnetic field by a magnetic-field direction detecting element composed of a ferromagnetic-metal-film magnetic resistance element.
CONSTITUTION: Two kinds of several magnetic field generating parts 8 and 9 providing signal magnetic fields in the lateral and longitudinal directions of magnetic substance 7 are arranged at fixed positions to form magnetic card 6. In addition, a metal film of Ni-Co alloy, etc., is used and ferromagnetic metal-film magnetic resistance element 3 with element parts 1 and 2 formed so that current directions are lateral and longitudinal is provided; and an output terminal is provided to the connection point of element parts 1 and 2 to form three-terminal magnetic direction detecting element 5 and several elements 5 are arranged at fixed positions on the same substrate 10 to form mangetic card read plate 1. This read plate 11 is superposed upon card 6 and the direction of the signal magnetic field of card 6 is detected by element parts 1 and 2 of read plate 11 to read code signals of card 6 accurately.
