Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the control function of the control electrode of a flat plate- like picture display unit by forming a plurality of electron beam passing holes at a metallic plate and coating to form an insulating film on the portion except for the holes to thereby enhance the accuracy of the electron beam passing hole.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of electron beam passing holes 53 are perforated by etching at a metallic plate 52, and further perforated at the periphery thereof by a screen printing or the like, and coated with insulator such as slit glass 54 or the like thereon. Thus, the holes 53 of the plate 52 may maintain a circular shape near a true circle as obtained by the etching process, and the electron beam may not be affected by unnecessary strain at the passing holes 53, but receive suitable deflecting and focusing actions to thereby improve the focusing and intensity characteristics so as to improve the quality of picture on the picture display unit.
