Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a transfer product of fresh color tone and high rigidity by laying one upon another a transfer sheet formed thereon with a pattern layer including a binder and a thermally transferable colorant which has been treated with a specified alkali agent and a substrate onto which the pattern is to be transfered and then heating the assembly under pressure.
CONSTITUTION: A transfer sheet comprises a substrate sheet formed thereon with a pattern layer including a binder and a thermally transferable colorant which has been formed by dissolving or dispersing in water a colorant (e.g. Malachite Green, Methlene Blue) which is relatively free from fusion, evaporation, sublimation, and the like due to heat and has relatively small tendency of thermal transfer onto other substrate and adding thereto an aqueous solution of an alkali agent (e.g. NaOH, ammonia water) which will enhance the thermal transfer property of the colorant. This transfer sheet is laid on a substrate onto which the pattern is to be transfered, and the assembly is heated to a temperature of 80 to 250°C for 30 to 90 seconds under a pressure of 0.05 to 20kg/cm2. Then the substrate sheet is stripped off to transfer the colorant onto the substrate onto which the pattern is to be transferred.
