Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic substance N-461. Colorless needle-like crystals (crystallized from ethanol); melting point, turns brown at 186°C with no sharp melting point; molecular formula C30H40N2O6, molecular weight 524.64. Elementary analysis Found, C 68.66%, H 7.66%, N 5.30%, O 18.34%; specific rotatory power [α]20D +196(C=1 chloroform). Solubility: soluble in chloroform, pyridine, and alkaline water; slightly sluble in ethyl acetate, acetone, methanol, and ethanol; insoluble in ether, benzene, n-hexane, and water.
USE: Agricultural and horticultural fungicides having antibacterial activities, and effective for various types of downy mildew, phytophtora capsici, late blight, damping-off, bacterial soft rot, anthracnose, powdery mildew, blast, and sheath blight.
PROCESS: Strains of the genus Streptomyces having the ability to produce substance N-461 preferably Streptomyces sp. N-461 bacteria (FERM-P No. 4513), are cultured, and the substance N-461 is collected from the culture.
