Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:The antibiotic substance saphenamycin of formula or its salt.
USE: An antitumor agent, a remedy for infectious diseases of man, animals, etc. caused by Gram-positive bacteria, and a remedy for fish diseases.
PROCESS: Saphenamycin-producing bacteria belonging to Streptomyces genus (e.g. MG314-hF8 strain) are cultred in a medium containing nutrient source, and the compound of formula or its salt produced and accumulated in the cultured product is separated therefrom. The compound of formula has the following characteristics: yellow prismatic crystal; decomposition point, 200W202°C; specific rotation,[α]D24=0° (c=1.0, CHCl3); solubility, moderately soluble in choroform and dimethyl sulfoxide, hardly soluble in water, methanol and acetone.
