Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce distortion of a pulse waveform of small amplitude by providing a white expander circuit between a clipping circuit for video signals and a frequency modulator.
CONSTITUTION: Between clipping circuit 3 and FM modulator 5a, white expander circuit 4 is provided. Then, setting the potential of constant voltage source 31 of circuit 4 lower than the white peak potential of video signal by the forward potential of diode 29 results in that at a potential higher than the white peak, the V-f conversion characteristic of modulator 5a becomes steep in gradient. This conversion characteristic is equivalent to the expansion of the white side of the video signal. Namely, energy lost in clipping the white side can be regenerated by white expander circuit 4. In this way, since variation in directcurrent component cuased by clipping can be suppressed, the distortion of an impulsive waveform of small amplitude can be reduced, so that quality of a picture can be improved.
