Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title resin dispersion having excellent dispersion stability and useful as paint, ink, etc., by esterifying a specific glycidyl (meth) acrylate copolymer with an unsaturated carboxylic acid, and grafting a specific monomer to the copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A monomer of the formula I (R1 is H, CH3; X is 6W20C ester, etc.), e.g. (meth) acrylic acid lauryl ester, and (B) glycidyl (meth) acrylate [(A):(B) is 99.9W80:0.1W20], are disperesed in water, and copolymerized at 70W 150°C. The copolymer (100 parts by weight) is esterified with (C) 0.1W20 parts of an unsaturated carboxylic acid such as acrylic acid, at 30W100°C. The esterified polymer is grafted with a compound of formula II (Y is 1W4 C ester, etc.) such as methyl acrylate, to obtain the objective resin dispersion.
