Abstract
PURPOSE: To form active dichlorocarvene useful for various organic reactions readily at a low cost, by reacting CHCl3 with an alkali in a specific cyclic urea.
CONSTITUTION: CHCl3 is reacted with an alkali in a cyclic urea compound of the formula (n is 2 or 3, X is H or CH3 when n is 2, X is H when n is 3; R1 and R2 are 1W3C alkyl groups), preferably DMI (chemical name: 1, 3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidine) to form active dichlorocarvene, which is subjected to the next step. A complex of the compound of the formula with CHCl3 facilitates the dichlorocarvene formation. The diclorocarvene formed in DMI is highly active.
