Abstract

PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a tip by making small the cutting resistance of a throw-away tip of multi-angular plate and making thereby the cutting chip disposal process more effective. CONSTITUTION:The positive rake angle theta of a slope 3 formed by the middle land 2 of a triangular, for ex., throw-away tip 1 is set to 10 deg.-20 deg., where a number of projections 5 of spherical form and situated lower than the ridge 6 are provided in the hollow parts 4. Thereby cutting resistance is reduced and cutting chips are curled, folded or broken off, securing a good performance of cutting process. This reduction of the cutting resistance and enhancement of effectiveness in cutting chip treatment prolong the life of tip.
