Abstract
PURPOSE: To set a printing position on a sheet automatically with high accuracy by arranging plural detecting elements just before a platen to which the sheet of a printing device is inserted to detect the left end position of the sheet, and by correcting automatically a distance between the left end positon of the sheet and the printing positon.
CONSTITUTION: A detecting device consisting of a detecting element array 5 and a light emitter 6 is arranged just before a position where a sheet 3 sent out from the sheet containing cassette 2 of a printing device reaches a platen 8. If the sheet 3 passes there, the amount of light received by the detecting element array 5 is changed and the left end of the sheet 3 is detected. If the sheet left end position is not at its standard position, the output is inputted to a carriage drive circuit via a position detecting circuit, a step number moving signal circuit, a moving amount correcting circuit, etc., and a carriage is moved to an initial printing position. By so doing, the first printing position can be set with high accuracy.
