Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate a loss due to the unnecessary supplementary charging of commutation capacitors and surely turn off main thyristors, by detecting a load current at the time of commutation and comparing the detected current with a reference value to decide whether supplementary charging should be performed or not.
CONSTITUTION: The output of a current and voltage regulator 1 is passed through a phase shifter 2 and applied to the gates of the main thyristors UM-ZM through an amplifier 2 and to the gates of turn-off thyristors PU, PL and supplementary charging thyristors PUX, PLX through a forced commutation circuit turn-on signal generation and distribution unit 4. The load current id is detected and compared with the reference value Id by a comparator 7. When the load current is larger than the reference value, an instruction is applied to eliminate a turn-on pulse for the supplementary charging thyristors PUX, PLX. Since the unnecessary supplementary charging of the commutation capacitors is not effected, the loss due to the unnecessary charging is reliminated.
