Abstract
PURPOSE: To form a porous thin film with fine pores 0.01 to 1 microns in pore diameter, having a porosity of 10 to 30% and composed of aluminium oxide and glass powder, on the surfce of a sintered alumina thin plate.
CONSTITUTION: A reverse osmosis membrane, or dynamic membrane formation supporter, used in the treatment of industrial effluents, the desalination of saline water, etc., is prepared by the procedure in which a slurry obtained from mixing aluminium oxide powder, glass powder, and an aqueous solution of an organic high molecular compound as a binder is coated on the surface of a porous alumina plate having fine pores 1 to 10 microns in pore diameter, a porosity of 25 to 35%, and a thickness of approx. 2mm and then dried to form a layer(Al2O3-glass powder mixture) of a thickness of 10 to 500 microns on its surface, followed by heating and cooling. Finally, an Al2O3-glass powder mixture layer having fine pores 0.01 to 1 micron in pore diameter and a porosity of 10 to 30% is formed on the surface of the alumina plate.
