Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title clathrate compound which is resistant to autoxidation, stable, and easily handleable, and useful as a lasting perfume and low-irritant drug, by clathrating citral or citronellal with cyclodextrin.
CONSTITUTION: A citral or citronellal clathrate compound obtained by clathrating citral or citronellal with cyclodextrin, pref. β-cyclodextrin. The clathrate compound can be precipitated either by adding citral or citronellal to a saturated solution of β- cyclodextrin and stirring the mixture for 0.5-several hours, or by dispersing an organic solvent solution (e.g. acetone or ether solution) of citral or citronellal in a saturated aqueous solution of β-cyclodextrin, and stirring the mixture.
