Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Benzo[ij]quinolizine-2-carboxylic acid derivative and its salt of formula I (R1 is lower alkyl, p-methylphenyl).
EXAMPLE: 8-Methanesulfonyloxy-6,7-dihydro-1-oxo-1H,5H-benzo[ij]quinolizine-2-carboxylic acic.
USE: Antibacterial agent or its synthetic intermediate; especially it is important as a synthetic intermediate of the compound of formula 6 that shows remarkable effectiveness against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.
PROCESS: The compound of formula 2 derived from 5-hydroxy-3, 4-dihydrocarbostyril is made to react with a compound of formula 3 (R2, R3 are lower alkyls) to form the compound of formula 4, which is cyclized by heating or using POCl3 or the like and then hydrolyzed to produce the compound of formula I. The compound of formula 2 also is novel.
