Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the title alloy with enhanced bulging workability by heating an Al alloy ingot contg. a predetermined ratio of Zn, Mg, Zr, etc. to finely precipitate a cpd. of Zr and Al followed by extrusion at a specified temp.
CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy ingot is manufactured contg. Zn 3W8%, Mg 0.5W 3%, Zr 0.05W0.3%, Mn 0.1W0.5% and B 0.005W0.02%. At the time of manufacturing this Al alloy it is desirable to well agitate the molten alloy after adding B, whereby the B and Zr are bonded to form a 3W5μ B-Zr type cpd. The ingot is then heated well at 400W550°C to precipitate an about 0.01W0.5μ Zr-Al type cpd. in the matrix, followed by extrusion at 400W550°C. Thus, a uniform fine recrystallized structure is formed up to about 0.1mm depth from the surface of the extruded material such as a section, and an Al-Zn-Mg alloy with enhanced cold workability, esp. bulging workability is manufactured.
