Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve the reduction in branching losses in connecting part by removing the clads near the joint part of optical fibers with hydrofluoric acid then thermally fusing the joint part to a photo detecting body. CONSTITUTION:When an optical fiber 1 is dipped for a fixed time in hydrofluoric acid, its clad layer 2 is removed and therefore thermally fusing this to the other optical fiber having no clad yields the optical fiber connected part having no effect of clad at all. When the optical fiber is gradually pulled up at the clad removing work, the neighborhood of the optical fiber joint part is shaped to taper form and therefore if the optical fibers having been treated in this way are provided, e.g., two pieces, side by side and are thermally fused, the entire part becomes of taper form and the layer 2 does not exist or the layer thickness is extremely thin at the end face 6 to be connected to the 3rd optical fiber and therefore the optical fiber connected part of low branching losses is formed. The optical fibers having been treated in this way may be directly thermally fused to a lens, optical guide, etc.
