Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable sufficient frequency stabilization to be performed and achieve higher speed of operation by providing a variable frequency converter which is capable of providing the exit light controlled at the frequency of incident light by electrical control signal. CONSTITUTION:Osillated light 14 from a laser oscillator 20 is entered into a frequency converter 21 which is controlled by the control signal from a driving circuit 22 and the exit light 24 of the frequency converter 21 is entered into an absorption cell 27 which has sealed therein atom or molecular gas. As a result, the intensity of the fluorescence 28 generated from the absorption cell 27 becomes maximum when the frequency omega + DELTAomega of the output light 24 of the frequency converter 21 coincides with the peak frequency omega0 of the absorption cell 27. The fluorescence 28 is converted to an electric signal by a photo detector 29. This signal is then compared with the specified reference frequency in a control signal generating circuit 31 and the compared output thereof is applied as a control signal 26 to the driving circuit 22, whereby the frequency omega + DELTAomega of the output light 24 is maintained stably at the value of omega0.
