Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve flame preventiveness and selective gas permeability of a permeable gas shielding material used, for instance, for partition plate of total heat exchanger in an air conditioning apparatus.
CONSTITUTION: A high molecular substance such as water soluble polyvinyl alcohol containing moisture absorbing agent preferably of lithium chloride is combined, by way of impregnation or coating, with porous fibrous material in the form of paper obtained from incombustible and hydrophilic fibers like glass fibers having fiber diameters, for instance, smaller than 5μm, thereby obtaining a required moisture permeable gas shielding material. By use of such a gas shielding material, it is almost impossible for gas like air or carbon dioxide to pass therethrough since gas in shielded by thin films of highly dense high-molecular substance formed between fibers. However, steam is adsorbed onto the surfaces of these films since fibers has moisture absorbability and condensed into water. Then, water is passed through fibers by way of capillarity and permiates through the gas shielding material from its back to the outside by way of evaporation.
