PROCESS: A culture of actinomycetes, which belong to the genus Streptomyces, is brought into contact with mycaminosyltylonolide as a substrate under aerobic conditions to produce the substance N-1 of formula I. The actinomycetes have the ability to acetylate the hydroxyl group at the 3-position of the 16-membered macrolide ring, to link the hydroxyl group at the 4'-position to the mycarose (M), and to convert the hydroxyl group at the 4"-position of M into the isoraleryl group, and Streptomyces thermotoleraus ATCC11416 may be cited. The bacteira are cultured in a liquid medium by the shaking or spinner culture method.
