Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove the contaminants having accumulated on the electrodes of the solution type electrochromic display device and improve electrode life by heating the contaminated part (stirring may be combined).
CONSTITUTION: The contaminants having formed on the display electrodes of the solution type electrochromic display device using violigens are removed by local heating. For example, in the solution type electrochromic display device formed by sealing viologen containing electrolyte 4 between the substrate 1 provided with the electrodes 5 connected via through-holes 6 and cover glass 3, the electrodes 5 are locally heated for about 10 seconds to 5min at about 70W100°C by way of the through-holes 6. It is also possible make the contaminant removing effect much higher by beforehand sealing a magnetic stirrer in the cell and letting the stirrer revolve along with abovementioned heating thereby mechanically rubbing the electrodes.
