Abstract

PURPOSE: To diagnose rapidly and definitely the memory contents of the main memory unit of a computer by making a decision by comparing the total sum of memory contents of respective blocks obtained by dividing a read diagnostic area with that previously stored.
CONSTITUTION: By input part 3 and control part 4, start and end addresses 2 of a diagnostic area, a block size of dividing the diagnostic area, and upper and lower- limit block numbers are stored in areas 10W11 of memory part 2. In accordance with those memory contents, the total number of words of read data of each block is calculated by register 17 of control part 4 through control part 4 and a direct memory access (DMA) unit and then stored in a comparison value area. When an interruption signal for a diagnostic start is sent to CPU 7 after this set-up end, contents of the diagnostic area of main memory unit 5 are read out on the basis of the memory contents of memory part 2 and the total number read words of each block is calculated by register 17 and then compared 18 with the memory contents of a corresponding block in area 13; when the both disagree, a decision that the memory contents of the block are destroyed is made and the contents of the main memory unit are automatically diagnosed at a high speed.
