Abstract
PURPOSE: The reaction of an aliphatic alcohol with oxygen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a combination catalyst of a platinum metal, a specific copper or iron salt and a specific basic substance is effected under a specifically low carbon monoxide partial pressure to produce acid carbonate ester at a high reaction rate in high selectivity with advantage.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a combination of (I) a platinum metal, preferably palladium, or its salt, (II) a copper or iron salt soluble in alcohol as halide, and (III) at least one selected from trialkylamines, heterocylic bridge amines, disubstituted carbodiimides, alkali metal salts, preferably halides, nitrates, sulfates carbonates, carboxylates, and alkali metal alkoxides, preferably additional quaternary ammonium salt or tertiary slufonium salt as a side-reaction inhibitor, an alcohol is made to react with carbon monoxide and oxygen at 1W20kg/cm2 carbon monoxide partial pressure, thus producing said carbonate ester.
