Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high quality aq. caustic alkali soln. by adding hypochlorite to a nickel-contg. aq. caustic alkali soln. to separate nickel oxide precipitated.
CONSTITUTION: To an aq. caustic alkali soln. contg. nickel cpds. as impurities is added 3.1W30, pref. 3.5W25 times as much hypochlorite (as available chlorine) as the nickel, thereby converting the nickel cpds. into nickel oxide, which is then precipitation-separated. When below 3.1 times as much hypochlorite is added, nickel removal becomes almost impossible. In case above 30 times as much hypochlorite is added, the nickel removing effect is slightly enhanced, and excess hypochlorite remains unfavorably.
