Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the speed over a wide range from high to low levels in a preset accuracy by controlling the counting period of a counter, which is operative to count the pulses generated in accordance with the speed, in response to the speed.
CONSTITUTION: When pulses corresponding to the speed generated vy a pulse generator 1 are counted by a counter 5 so that the counted value reaches a preset one, the counter 5 commands a time measuring device 3 to accomplish its operation. As a result, the device 3 counts the clocks of high frequency, which are generated by a clock generator 2, until it is supplied with a next command, so that the speed is detected by a speed detector 4. In accordance with the detected value, a pulse counted value calculating device 6 controls the setting of the counted period of the counter 5 such that the period is inversely proportional to the speed. As a result, the device 3 counts the clocks for a preset period irrespective of the low and high speeds so that the speed over a wide range is measured always in a preset accuracy by the device 4 which is controlled in accordance with the set value of the device 6.
