Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title composition with little disagreeable odor and free from any environmental pollution problem, having equivalent potential to the conventional creosote oil, by incorporating a petroleum pitch in the residue produced by the beat freatment of a petroleum fraction.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition can be obtained by incorporating (A) 100 parts by wt. of a residue comprising heavy oils produced by the heat-treatment of a petroleum fraction preferably at ≥450°C with (B) 1W50 (pref. 5W30) parts by wt. of a petroleum pitch. The composition obtained is desired to have a BMCI of at least 140. Here, the BMCI (Bureau of Mines Correlation Index) is an index to determine the adequacy of a composition for carbon black manufacture and defined as the following equation: BMCI=48,640/k+473.7S-456.8 where k: average boiling point °F, S: specific gravity at 60°F.
