Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain improved inexpensive coal being easily decomposed thermally, useful as an intermediate product for liquefying coal, by blending low-quality coal with a petroleum type heavy oil and a coal type heavy oil, heat-treating the blend under a specific condition.
CONSTITUTION: (A) low-quality coal such as brown coal, lignite, etc. is blended with (B) a petroleum type heavy oil such as a distillation residue oil of crude oil, etc. and/or a coal type heavy oil such as anthracene oil, etc., the blend is heat- treated at 350W450°C under pressure 1W20kg/cm2 for 3hrW120min, to give the improved coal. Low-quality coal having a carbon content of ≤75wt% based on dry ash free state and an ash content of ≤10wt% based on dry state is preferable as the component A.
