Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect plugging in terms of the levels of electrical current of an armature before and after the turning-off of a chopper, without being affected by temperature.
CONSTITUTION: When a chopper 1 is turned on and a power source B1 is connected to a DC motor 4, a capacitor 23 is charged depending on the armature current of the motor. When the chopper 1 is turned off, the capacitor 23 is discharged through a diode 24 and a resistor 26 until the voltage on a point D divided by resistors 25, 26 and that on a point B become equal to each other. At that time, the voltage on the point B gets equal to a prescribed current level. The voltage on the point B and that (voltage corresponding to the armature current) on a point A are applied to a comparator 31. When the voltage on the point B is higher than a reference voltage, namely, the armature current which flows during the open state of the chopper 1 is higher than the prescribed current level, plugging is regarded as being under way.
