Abstract

PURPOSE: To cool a carburetor by generating an electrostatic wind attendant on a corona discharge generated by an electrode pair on stopping of an engine or during idling.
CONSTITUTION: Inside an engine room 1 is arranged an outside air conduit 10 of which one end is opened into a front grille portion 11 and the other end 12 is faced to a carburetor C. In the conduit 10 is arranged an electrode pair 14 for generating a corona discharge, the electrode pair 14 consisting of a needle electrode 14a and a mesh electrode 14b. On stopping of an engine or during idling, a high negative DC voltage is applied to the electrode 14a, to develop a non-uniform electric field around the electrode 14a. By this, a corona discharge is generated between the electrode 14a and the electrode 14b which is faced to the former and applied with a high positive voltage, so that an electrostatic wind is generated attending on the corona discharge in the direction from the electrode 14a to the electrode 14b. This electrostatic wind sucks in the outside air from the outside of the engine room 1.
