Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform the washing and desalting of fuel oil preventing the clogging of the filter, without using an emulsion breaker, by adding water to fuel oil before the second stage of a plurality of centrifugal separators inserted in the flow-line of the fuel oil in series.
CONSTITUTION: The crude fuel oil 10 is successively treated by the first-stage centrifugal separator 1, the second-stage centrifugal separator 1' and a filter 7, and sent to the next process. In the first-stage separator 1, the solid components and most part of sodium salt and potassium salt and removed together with the sludge of the crude oil 10. The fuel oil free of the sludge is added with clean water 12, and stirred with a mixer 4 to obtain a water-in-oil dispersion. The water droplets are separated in the second-stage separator 1' forming a layer of the droplets containing the residual sodium salt and potassium salt. The objective fuel oil containing little sodium or potassium salt can be obtained by removing the droplet layer from the oil.
