Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The bisglyceryl ester of a dibasic acid I (R is 2-16C saturated carbon chain, 14W18C carbon chain having one or two double bonds, or 2C carbon chain having one or two hydroxyl groups).
EXAMPLE: Bisglyceryl ester of dodecanedicarboxylic acid.
USE: An emulsifier having emulsifying action at low temperatures, e.g. room temperatures, and capable of emulsifying volatile materials, materials unstable at high temperatures, etc. It is useful for food, cosmetic bases, etc. by using together with the monoglyceryl ester of malic acid. It is also useful as a dyeing aid particularly to improve dyeability.
PROCESS: An alkali metal salt of a dibasic acid II (R is 2W20C saturated carbon chain, etc.; M is alkali metal) is reacted with 3-chloro-1, 2-propanediol III in an inert gas at 130W170°C to give a compound I (wherein R is 2W20C saturated carbon chain, etc.).
