Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title steel having superior corrosion and erosion resistances as cast by regulating the Cr content of Ni-Cr stainless steel; adding N; and further adding elements controlling formation of Cr carbide.
CONSTITUTION: This steel contains C<0.10%, Si 0.3W2.5%, Mn 0.5W5.0%, Ni 5W13%, Cr 12W22% and N 0.07W0.3%. It may contain one or more out of Ti 0.02W1.0%, Nb 0.02W1.0% and Zr 0.02W1.0%, and/or Ca 0.001W0.05%. By regulating the upper limit of the the Cr content and adding N, formation of σ phase is controlled. The addn. of Ti, Nb, Zr, etc. prevents pitting corrosion and intergranular corrosion due to Cr carbide, and the addn. of Ca results in enhanced corrosion resistance, corrosion resistant strength and machinability as cast. Thus, this steel is a superior marine propeller material.
