Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable coloration to be reversibly changed by adding such elements as may induce concentration change in the liquid crystal in a lyotropic type cholesteric liquid crystal layer.
CONSTITUTION: After micro balloons 36 are fixed by a binder which is not attacked by the solvent of lyotropic type cholesteric liquid crystal 33 to a lower substrate 32, the liquid crystal 33 and transparent upper substrate 31 are laminated and their circumference is sealed by a sealing agent 34. This makes possible the absorption and release of the solvent particles in the liquid crystal 33 and causes coloring through unevenness between the liquid crystal concentration at the bourndary part of the balloons 36 and the liquid crystal concentration at the non-boundary part, thereby performing coloration.
