Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium for thermal transcription from which a slave tape can easily be formed, by forming a cobalt metal thin film on a polymer- formed base material giving specific magnetic anisotropy. CONSTITUTION:On a polymer-formed base material such as a polyethylene terephthalate film, a cobalt metal of more than about 98.5% in purity is bonded by vacuum vapor-deposition, high-frequency sputtering, etc., for form a thin film of less than approximate 1mu in thickness. In this case, the hexagonal rotational symmetric axis (axis C, main axis of anisotropy) of the hexagonal close lattice of the metal thin film is oriented by slanting incident vapor deposition and magnetic vapor-deposition methods to control magnetic anisotropy. Namely, the intensity of X-ray diffraction is used as the index of the above-mentioned orientation rate and the cobalt metal thin film is formed at the intensity ratio of approximate 4:1 of surface [002] to [200].
