Abstract

PURPOSE: To separation-extract copper with an extracting reagent dissolved in an org. solvent and to recycle the waste liquor as a chlorinating agent for chlorination roasting by chlorination-roasting copper-contg. raw material; allowing the resulting copper chloride to be absorbed in an aq. medium; and extracting the copper after pH adjustment.
CONSTITUTION: Copper-contg. raw material is chlorination-roasted at 800W1400°C together with an alkali or alkaline earth metal chloride. Iron contained in the material is turned ferric and prevented from volatilizing as chloride, and the copper and other nonferrous metals are volatilized as chlorides. The volatilized chlorides are allowed to be absorbed in an aq. medium such as water or an aq. soln. contg. an alkali or alkaline earth metal chloride. This aq. soln. is then adjusted to pH 0.5W2 and treated with a soln. of an extracting reagent of α-hydroxybenzophenoxime type or the like in an org. solvent such as kerosine to extract the copper. The extraction waste liquor contains much alkali or alkaline earth metal chloride, so after precipitation-removing metals other than copper as hydroxides by pH adjustment, the liquor is recryled as a chlorinating agent for the chlorination-roasting process.
