Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare pristanol and/or pristanediol from a cultured product obtained by culturing pristane-producing bacteria belonging to Acinetobacter genus in a medium containing pristane as a main carbon source.
CONSTITUTION: Pristane-producing bacteria such as Acinetobacter calcoaceticus MT2024 (FERM-P No.4489) are aerobically cultrued in a medium containing pristane as a main carbon source, and other components such as nitrogen source (e.g. ammonium sulfate), inorganic salts (e.g. phosphate), vitamins, etc., at pH4W8 and 20W37°C, esp. about 28°C. The cultured product is centrifuged to remove the bacterial cells, extracted with ether, and subjected to the chromatographic separation to obtain the objective pristanol and/or pristanediol.
