Abstract
PURPOSE: To isomerize 3,3-dichloropropene, a by-product in the preparation of allyl chloride, into 1,3-dichloropropene and to use advantageously as a nematocide, in the presence of a metal salt of zinc, iron, copper, tin, titanium, or vanadium as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: 3,3-Dichloropropene, which is a by-product in the preparation of allyl chloride by chlorination of propylene and has been mostly discarded and burned, is efficiently isomerized into 1,3-dichloropropene efectively in the presence of a metal salt (e.g. a halogenide, napthenate, etc.) of zinc, iron, copper, tin, titanium or vanadium. 3,3-Dichloropropene is formed as a by-product in the form of a mixture with compounds having nearly the same boiling point, but can be directly isomerized without separation.
