Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the selectivity, and to recover and utilize the by-product hydrogen chloride and vinyl chloride (VC), by dehydrochlorinating 1,1,2-trichloroethane catalytically in the presence of VC.
CONSTITUTION: 1,1,2-Trichloroethane is dehydrochlorinated catalytically in the presence of vinyl chloride and a catalyst, e.g. a solid acid or base catalyst, such as a cesium, potassium, or rubidium salt, or a combination of the metal salt with a salt of silver, lead, chromium, iron, or molybdenum to give vinylidene chloride.
